Merrifield House is ideally located for exploring the delights of both Dartmoor and wonderful South Devon. The area is unsurpassed for walkers and mountain bikers with the unspoilt expanse of Dartmoor providing endless walking and mountain biking for all abilities. The beautiful South West coastal path offers another alternative and canoeists too can enjoy the picturesque and testing River Dart or the fantastic Lyme Bay coast. The River Dart, one of the most beautiful rivers in the Country, is a short drive, offering tranquil boat cruises between the towns of Dartmouth and Totnes, both well worth exploring. There are many National Trust properties locally, including the recently renovated Greenway House, home to Agatha Christie as well as the Abbey at Buckfast, famous for its honey and mead.

Other visitor attractions include Paignton Zoo, Kents Cavern, Woodlands Leisure Park, Pennywell Farm and a choice of two local steam train journeys are but a few examples of the vast choice of places of interest for all ages and interests.

The nearby towns of Ashburton, Torquay, Newton Abbot, Totnes and Dartmouth offer a variety of shopping with a wealth of local produce, Farm Shops and a large Marks & Spencer and Tesco’s stores. As well as an excellent selection of Tea Rooms, pubs and restaurants locally, Ashburton has a highly acclaimed restaurant whilst our own local pub is a short walk away and is very welcoming to families.

Younger visitors will enjoy some of Britains cleanest, safest and most sheltered sandy beaches within a 20 minute drive. The spectacular beaches of the South Hams are also an easy drive including Blackpool Sands and Bantham Beach for surfers.
